Our picnic block was inspired by our flagship Braai Block. This is a very much smaller version, but still has a groove with purpose! The idea behind this block is to have something small enough to take everywhere, but still big enough to be able to slice a steak or chop vegetables on!

The Picnic Block is perfect for those adventures where the tomato juice wants to run onto the picnic blanket, or where you planing on doing a ‘plankie braai’ in the mountain!

This block is also the perfect gift as it comes in one of cotton bags!

About the wood: Sapele

Scientific Name: Entandrophragma cylindricum

Distribution: Tropical Africa

Janka Hardness: 1,410 lbf (6,280 N)

Color/Appearance: Heartwood is a golden to dark reddish brown. Color tends to darken with age. Besides the common ribbon pattern seen on quartersawn boards, Sapele is also known for a wide variety of  other figured grain patterns, such as: pommele, quilted, mottled, wavy, beeswing, and fiddleback.

Grain/Texture: Grain is interlocked, and sometimes wavy. Fine uniform texture and good natural luster.

Rot Resistance: Heartwood ranges from moderately durable to very durable in regard to decay resistance. Moderate insect/borer resistance.

Availability: Should be moderately priced for regular  plainsawn or quartersawn lumber, though figured lumber and veneer can be extremely expensive, particularly pommele or quilted Sapele.
