The Mega Braai Block is only for the serious braaiers! Crafted from Sapele wood, this block weighs about 8.7kg! It has a mega groove like the other Braai Blocks which is angled towards the hole that runs into the drip tray. On the bottom side, the hole has an anti-drip feature to ensure that the juices do not run along the bottom of the board. You can also place a cork in the hole when you emptying the drip tray. The feet are slightly arched, and slide into the board. No glue or screws have been used!

About the wood: Sapele

Scientific Name: Entandrophragma cylindricum

Distribution: Tropical Africa

Janka Hardness: 1,410 lbf (6,280 N)

Color/Appearance: Heartwood is a golden to dark reddish brown. Color tends to darken with age. Besides the common ribbon pattern seen on quartersawn boards, Sapele is also known for a wide variety of  other figured grain patterns, such as: pommele, quilted, mottled, wavy, beeswing, and fiddleback.

Grain/Texture: Grain is interlocked, and sometimes wavy. Fine uniform texture and good natural luster.

Rot Resistance: Heartwood ranges from moderately durable to very durable in regard to decay resistance. Moderate insect/borer resistance.

Availability: Should be moderately priced for regular  plainsawn or quartersawn lumber, though figured lumber and veneer can be extremely expensive, particularly pommele or quilted Sapele.
